Behavioural problems

When children adopt socially unacceptable forms of conduct, behavioural problems or misadaptations are said to exist. These are characterised by a repeated and steady models of anti-social, aggressive, or challenging behaviour, in some cases even self-harm. These problems are often accompanied by unfavourable psychosocial conditions, relationship problems within the family and outside as well as poor school reports. Difficult childhood and poor living conditions may contribute to any future behavioural problems. This is more so with boys. These problems may not often be easily recognised and are even sometimes, mistaken with hyperactivity. Although the two can go together. Behavioural problems are generalised or circumstantional. Though one cannot diagnose a child as having behavioural problems on the basis of one isolated action.

Hyperactivity and attention deficit

Hyperactivity and attention deficit are behavioural deviations occurring in childhood - these are manifested in restless motions that lead to loss of concentration of attention and considerable difficulties in accomplishing structured tasks. The group therapy is a process of psychological influence of children with CP by verbal and non-verbal techniques in which the therapist uses the interaction (mainly emotional) present in the small, specially organized groups patients in order to reduce their somato-vegetative discomfort and to improve their psycho-social functioning. Group therapy is seen as an important factor for individualisation and future socialisation of children with CP and other neuro-muscular developmental problems.

When faced the illness, the family must adapt itself to the various changes in the roles, structure and models of connection between its members. The way they integrate these changes within the family depends on its values and organisation. The practical and emotional needs in everyday life often become subjected to the illness and this on one hand, contributes to the parents' feelings of how well they manage to cope with their children's special needs. If some families feel strong enough to cope with the situation, by discovering new recourses unknown before, for others the disease is seen as a huge strain leading to considerable emotional and interpersonal problems.
